General information

The Kornynske deposit, located in the urban-type settlement of Kornyn, Popilnyansky district, Zhytomyr region, is an important source of coarse-grained grey granite, which is classified as decorative. The Zhytomyr region as a whole is located on an ancient crystalline shield rich in a variety of stone species such as granite, labradorite, gabbro and marble. Korninsky granite is known for its grey colour, sometimes turning into dark grey, with large light pink and transparent grains, making it a popular choice for decoration and construction.

Mineral composition

Korninsky granite has the following mineral composition:

• Microcline: 28 %.
• Plagioclase: 34 %.
• Quartz: 20 %.
• Biotite: 13 %.
• Other impurities: 5 %.

Physical and mechanical properties

Granite from the Korninsky deposit has high physical and mechanical properties that ensure its durability and stability:

1. Bulk weight: 2730 kg/m³.
2. Water absorption: 0,31 %.
3. Compressive strength: 190 MPa.
4. Bending strength: 29 MPa.
5. Erasability: 0.35 g/cm².
