Gabbro

General information

Gabbro is one of the most famous types of black granite quarried in the Zhytomyr region. This material is distinguished not only by its strength, but also by its characteristic black-greenish hue, which sometimes turns into turquoise. Gabbro monuments have a solid and austere appearance, emphasising the atmosphere of calm and sublimity.

Deposits

The Zhytomyr region is rich in gabbro deposits, the most famous of which are the following:

• Bystriyivske.
• Slipchytske.
• Shadurske.
• Oleksandrivske.
• Irshitske.

Due to the constant discovery of new deposits, the scope of gabbro applications is expanding, including not only funeral services, but also construction, production of reinforced concrete mixtures, granite paving stones and paving slabs.

Physical and mechanical properties

Gabbro is a high-strength material that is resistant to physical impact, temperature changes and excessive moisture. Its characteristics:

1. Relative density: 2890-3100 kg/m³.
2. Compression resistance: 346 MPa.
3. Compressive modulus of elasticity: 91550 MPa.
4. Erasability: 0.12 g/cm².
5. Porosity: 0,68 %.
6. Frost resistance: Mark 100F.
7. Water absorption: 0,19 %.

Mineral composition

Gabbro consists mainly of non-ferrous minerals and plagioclases. Exact composition:

• Plagioclase: 53,2 %.
• Quartz: 0,58 %.
• Pyroxene: 33,3 %.
• A horny deception: 4,5 %.
• Titanium magnetite: 6,8 %.
• Biotite: 0,8 %.

Areas of application

Gabbro is widely used in various industries, such as:

1. Funeral services:
   • Production of monuments and memorial plaques.
2. Construction:
   • Production of reinforced concrete structures.
   • Laying paving stones and facing slabs.
   • Facing facades and walls of buildings.
3. Production of crushed stone:
   • Crushed stone of various fractions for road construction organisations, asphalt plants and concrete goods companies.
