The Mezhyrichka deposit, located near the Mezhyrichka station in the Zhytomyr region, is known as the "Flower of Ukraine" due to its excellent decorative qualities. This granite has earned the status of one of the best decorative stones in Ukraine. Mezhyrichka granite is a medium-grained light brown stone with impurities of various shades depending on the colour of feldspar, the main component of this material.

Mineral composition

• Feldspar: 55-78 %.
• Quartz: 15-40 %.
• Biotite: 15 %.
• Plagioclase: 1-20 %.

Properties and finishes

Mezhyrichi granite has high decorative and mechanical qualities:

1. Processing:
   • It is perfectly polished, maintaining a mirror-like surface even when facing externally.
   • Relief textures emphasise the monumentality of the buildings.
   • During heat treatment, it acquires a decorative appearance, changing colour and pattern.
2. Physical and mechanical characteristics:
   • Density: 2620-2650 kg/m³.
   • Erasability: 0.42-0.53 g/m².
   • Water absorption: 0,19-0,81 %.
   • Porosity: 1,1-2,8 %.
   • Compressive strength in the water-saturated state: 1107-1771 kg/cm².
   • Compressive strength in air-dry condition: 1383-2035 kg/cm².
